Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs), one of the most common vascular malformations, are characterized by abnormally dilated intracranial microvascular capillaries resulting in increased susceptibility to hemorrhagic stroke. As an autosomal dominant disorder with incomplete penetrance, majority CCMs gene mutation carriers largely asymptomatic, but, when symptoms occur, disease has typically reached stage focal hemorrhage irreversible brain damage, while molecular “trigger” initiating occurrence CCM pathology remain elusive. Currently, invasive neurosurgery removal lesions is only option for treatment, despite recurrence worse frequently occurring after surgery. Therefore, there a grave need identification targets therapeutic treatment and biomarkers as risk predictors stroke prevention.
